The eldest boy was sick yesterday, forcing me to stay home from work. Darn! The dog is not sick, just so you know, only very spoiled...So, I had to find other ways to keep myself busy, and to assuage my despair over not being able to travel all the way down to classes. I came up with a few things.
Like frittata with spinach and home-made goat's milk boursin cheese.
A first attempt at making mozzarella. Here I'm stretching the soft curds, and kneading them similar to what you do with fresh bread dough, then...
the little balls of cheese are set in ice-cold water. Next comes the brining overnight, which cures them. They're ready to eat today, and oh! how I wish it was tomato and basil season! What a perfect sandwich they would make.
Baking up some cinnamon sesame seed bread.
All-red potatoes almost ready for planting (which will happen today).
Excitement that the peppers were emerging, so that meant time to start the tomato seeds (seven kinds). In the background: broccoli, cabbage, and leeks.
Watering the garden, and drooling over the things that have just begun to come up, like arugula
and radishes...
But mostly drooling over the simmering crock-pot dinner of curry chicken. Chicken from our new local food shop, Prairie Sun Organics. It was delectable!Despite the hassle of having to stay home, I think I'm getting over it. Naturally, the boy is over his illness, too.
